You Are Not the Villain
In Bed Time, you play as the monster under the bed — but not the kind children fear. You are a guardian, a silent protector lurking in the dark, and your only mission is to make sure one small child sleeps safely through the night.
This is a reverse horror game that flips the genre on its head. The horror isn’t you. The horror is everything else that goes bump in the night.
Your Mission
Every night is a delicate operation. Keep the child asleep from dusk until dawn — and do it without being seen.
You must:
- Protect the child from nightmare creatures that invade the room
- Fix disturbances before they stir the child awake
- Hide in time whenever a parent checks in
Fail at any of these, and the night is lost.
The Nightmare Threats
Three malevolent entities will attempt to shatter the child’s peaceful sleep:
- Whisper Wisp — A drifting specter that plants dark thoughts and seeds bad dreams directly into the child’s mind
- Closet Crawler — A lurking creature that emerges from the closet, feeding on fear and growing bolder the longer it goes unchallenged
- Window Shade — A shadow that seeps through the window, distorting the room and warping the child’s sense of safety
You must intercept each threat before it reaches the child — quietly, carefully, without waking anyone.
Room Disturbances
Beyond the nightmare creatures, the room itself conspires against you. Random disturbances can jolt the child from sleep at any moment:
- A creaking window rattling in the wind
- A music box that winds itself up at the worst possible time
- Falling toys that clatter to the floor in the dark
You’ll need to move fast and stay silent to keep the room calm.
Three Core Mechanics
Dream Mood tracks the quality of the child’s dreams. Let a Whisper Wisp linger too long, and the mood darkens — pushing the child toward a nightmare spiral.
Sleep Comfort reflects how settled and secure the child feels. Unresolved disturbances chip away at comfort, making the child more likely to stir and wake.
Awareness measures how alert the household is. Every noise you make, every close call with a parent, raises awareness — and a fully aware household means the next parental check-in could be your last.
Balancing all three is the heart of Bed Time.
Win & Lose Conditions
You win when the child sleeps peacefully until morning — safe, rested, and blissfully unaware of everything you did to protect them.
You lose if the child wakes from a nightmare, or if a parent catches you in the room. One wrong move, one moment of carelessness, and the night ends.
